Custom calendars made with ceramic tile are a creative and practical addition to your home environment. You’ll never have to buy another paper calendar again. Making this type of calendar requires a lot of attention to detail so make sure to carefully follow the steps below.
Tools and Materials Needed:
- Aluminum U-channeling
- Tile cutter
- Label holder
Step 1 – Take All the Measurements
Plan how large you want your calendar to be. The frame should have enough space for six rows of aluminum channeling with the lowest row touching the inside bottom of the frame. The channeling will hold the tiles. Each tile will correspond to one day of the month and 7 tiles should be able to fit across one row of channeling to signify one week. Make the calculations for your frame and aluminum channeling based on the size of one tile. You may want to calculate the length of one row based on being able to fit 7 small tiles with small spaces in between them. You decide how small you want each tile piece to be. Purchase all the appropriate materials based on these measurements.
Step 2 – Insert the Rows
The U-channeling will need to be cut to fit the width of the frame. Make sure you have 6 pieces. Use a pencil to mark the inside of the frame where all 6 rows will be glued in. Remember that the first row should be touching the inside bottom of the frame. Glue all 6 rows in appropriately with the “U” part facing upwards.
Step 3 – Insert the Tiles
Use the tile cutter to carefully cut the tiles into little squares based on the measurements you decided in Step 1. You may want to use work gloves while cutting to be on the safe side. Print labels for numbers from 1 to 31 that can fit the face of the tiles. Glue each label onto each tile piece. Place these tiles in the U-channeling rows, depending on how many days there are in the current month. If there are leftover tiles, they can be stored away until the next month.
Step 4 – Set the Month
Attach the label holder to the face of the frame, centered at the bottom. It will hold a label that designates the month. Measure the size of the label that should fit in the label holder. Print out labels for every month, making sure that the size is appropriate for the label holder. Insert the label for the current month in the label holder.
Step 5 – Stick on the Days of the Week
Measure the inside of the top bar of the frame and divide this number into 7. This should be the width of the labels you’ll print for the days of the week. Print these labels and use glue to stick the 7 labels horizontally across the top of the frame. Make sure the tiles in the channeling now correspond to the appropriate day of the week for the current month to complete your custom calendar.
