Cutting a countertop, if not undertaken with care, can result in bigger problems for you. Apart from the minor risk involved due to working with sharp blades, there is also a risk of producing countertops with chipped rough edges.

Mistake 1: Not Knowing Your Tools

A common mistake by is to employ tools you are not comfortable with. Ensure that you know how to work a saw before proceeding with cutting. A circular blade can be tricky when it starts vibrating. Therefore, ensure that you have stable hands during work. Do not jump into work without proper gear. Use safety glasses and gloves while cutting. 

Mistake 2:  Not Cutting Professionally

Make sure that you use masking tape across the cutting line to avoid chipping. For large sized laminate sheets, initially cut to a rough size slightly larger than the exact measurements. Then, carefully trim the edges neatly to obtain the exact size.

Mistake 3: Failing to Finish the Edges

Even when you have cut the top to its exact size, your task is incomplete unless you have added finishing touches. Use sandpaper to smooth the rough edges and a metal file to neatly finish the job on some minor scratches and edges.
