Cutting Corrugated Metal Roof Panels Cutting Corrugated Metal Roof Panels
Corrugate metal is the most popular material not only for roofs but also for the walls of industrial and agricultural buildings. What makes corrugated metal a very popular option is the fact that it is very sturdy. It owes its sturdiness to the fact that it is made from galvanized metal. On the other hand, since it is made from metal, cutting this type of material requires a little bit of skill and very careful hands.
Step 1 - Prepare the Metal
Before you handle the corrugated metal sheet, it is important that you wear a pair of working gloves made from wool in order to protect your hands. Moreover, it is also very important to wear a pair of working goggles in order to protect your eyes from any small shards of metal that may escape while you are cutting the corrugate meta roof panels. It is important to remember that corrugated metal has very sharp edges; thus, proper handling should be observed. Once you have put on protective gloves, place the metal on a sturdy and stable work surface.
Step 2- Measure the Dimension of the Metal That You Want to Cut
Using a tape measure, measure the dimension of the metal roof panels, and mark the length that you need to cut using a marker. Continue tracing the dimension and pattern of the roof panels before you proceed to the next step.
Step 3- Use a Combination Square to Trace the Pattern
Once you have traced the pattern on the metal sheet, use a combination square blade and drag the tool along the edge of the metal sheet. If necessary, ask for help from a friend to hold down one edge of the metal sheet so that it will not move while you drag the combination square around the metal. This step is necessary in order to be able to trace the pattern along the metal, which will facilitate the cutting of the metal.
Step 4- Cut the Sheet Using Power Shears
The combination square will not cut the metal but will just facilitate the cutting process. To cut the sheet using power shears, make sure that you align the blades of the shears with the line that was made by the combination square. To operate the shears, just pull the trigger on the shears to initiate the cutting. However, if you encounter problems on the power shears, such as the blades binding, all you need to do is to tilt the handle of the shears forward in order to be able to make the blades work properly. Continue tilting the trigger back and forth until everything is cut through.
