Cutting down wood blinds to fit a certain window in your home can be easily accomplished with common household tools by following a few tips.

Step 1 - Measure the Blind

You will first need to calculate how much of the blind you wish to cut down. Use a tape measure to work out the width of the window, and add an inch or so on each side to provide an overlap, or deduct an inch for a blind which will be fitted inside the frame. Mark this measurement on the slats.

Step 2 - Prepare the Slats

Take the slats which you intend to cut, and wrap a piece of tape around the ends, as this will stop the wood splintering when you are cutting it. Make sure that all of your slats are in an evenly aligned, so that you don't cut off too much from one end.

Step 3 - Cut the Slats

Using your saw, cut the wood blinds down to the required length. Do each slat at once, and then you can mount the blinds back onto the wall.
