Designing An Accent Wall With Stripes Designing An Accent Wall With Stripes
An accent wall can be given a new look with the use of stripes. Painting stripes on walls is not difficult--deciding on where to put the stripes can be.
Vertical stripes can add height to a wall. Wide stripes tend to be more effective. Vertical stripes on both sides of the wall can give a wrap-around appearance for the room.
Horizontal stripes can add width to a room. A series of horizontal stripes starting 1/3 of the way up the wall can add a feeling of distance. If the stripes become narrower as they go up the wall, the effect is magnified.
Stripes forming frames around features like a fireplace can enhance the impact of the feature.
Use of Color
Matching and contrasting colors will give different effects.
The position of the stripes can be marked and a vertical chalk line pinged against the wall to provide a guide line for painting. Apply masking tape to either side of the stripe and paint between the pieces of tape.
An accent wall with stripes can be very impressive and worth the extra effort. The stripes can take on a life of their own and enhance the whole effect of a room.
