RTV silicone sealant is a strong adhesion used for sealing and filling gaps. It is chemical and fluid-resistant so it is almost a permanent solution to your adhesion problems. It is formulated to react fast upon application, and the following factors discussed in this article will help you determine the cure time of a RTV silicone sealant.
Reaction to Air Temperature
RTV silicone sealant reacts fast upon application, given that the temperature is at least 75 degree F (24 degrees Celsius), the sealant will form within 20 minutes. If you would be tooling the adhesion, its best to finish it within 5 to 10 minutes from the moment you apply it; after that it would be useless because part of the sealant has already set.
Since RTV silicone sealant reacts fast to air humidity, the smaller the amount you apply, the faster it solidifies which is a good thing when used in filling gaps.
Thickness of the Adhesion Applied
Depending on the thickness of the sealant applied, at the most it will take 24 hours to dry. Applying a thick layer of RTV silicone sealant is usually done when you’re bonding large objects or materials.
