Do ceramic brake pads last longer than metallic brake pads?
Ceramic brake pads are softer than the metallic variety. Counterintuitively, ceramic pads tend to last longer than metallic pads. They are more tolerant of the high heat levels caused by friction between the pads and the rotors. This characteristic improves their lifespan.
Costlier but More Durable
While ceramic brake pads cost more than the metallic type, they take longer to wear down. As semi-metallic brake pads press against the rotors, metal rubs against metal, breaking down the material at a faster rate. Metallic pads also cause rotors to wear out faster. Thus, ceramic brake pads are not only better in terms of their own life, but that of the corresponding rotors as well.
