Do I need a liner for my wood burning stove chimney? Do I need a liner for my wood burning stove chimney?
A liner may be needed for a wood burning stove chimney in some circumstances. Chimneys that are in working order do not require liners. However, if your chimney has a leak which allows smoke into a neighbor’s house, upstairs, or into your attic, it must be lined. Only if such a leak is present will a liner be necessary. If a liner is needed, please note that you cannot use a liner that was installed for use with a gas fire. These liners cannot stand up to the high temperatures produced by a wood burning fire, and will need to be replaced with a multi-fuel or wood burning fire-appropriate liner.
