Does a chimney thimble ever need to be replaced? Does a chimney thimble ever need to be replaced?
A chimney thimble is a piece of metal that fits into the chimney where the chimney will go out of the wall of your house. It is usually put in at the same time that your original chimney is built and it has to be cemented into place. This would make it very difficult to replace it and so it would not need to ever be replaced unless for some reason it was damaged beyond repair. In order to replace one, you would have to take the whole chimney apart and that would involve a lot of steps, so it is best avoided if at all possible.
