Does a steam shower need a floor drain?
Like any shower, a steam shower does indeed require a floor drain. The drain is installed at the same time as the steam shower floor, so it really won't add that much time or effort to the job. A drain is needed for a number of reasons:
- High-temperature water vapor emitted from the steam generator condenses and will eventually cool off, so it needs somewhere to go
- When cleaning the shower, a combination of water and cleaning agents are used. These, too, are washed down the drain
- Steam showers equipped with a standard shower head are doubly functional and will always require a drain
