The rate at which food kept in a free standing pantry will spoil in comparison to if it was kept elsewhere completely depends on the alternative storage location. If the alternative location was a freezer, then food kept in a freestanding pantry would spoil quicker. Bread, for example, will last for roughly 1 week in the pantry, but in the freezer it will be good for up to six 6 as long as it is defrosted correctly. If the alternative to putting the items in the pantry was to leave them on kitchen bench, then they will last longer in the pantry, where it is cooler, darker and drier.
