Dummy Door Knob Installation

Installing a dummy door knob is a simple process that adds beauty and functionality to any non-latching door.

Step 1 – Identify the Door

Most dummy knobs are used on double doors or French Doors that only have one functional door, or on double doors that use top latches so that neither door is functional.

They may also be used on doors for a pantry or shelving unit that has no latch on the door.

Identify the door in the home that is in need of a dummy knob.

Step 2 – Attach the Knob

The knob will likely require only two screws to attach to the door. They are simple to use and install. If you are using a hollow core door, dummy knobs may work loose eventually, since they are attached only to thin, exterior shell of the door.

Step 3 – Test the Knob

See if the knob is solidly attached so that you are able to open and close the door without damaging the door or the knob. If there is a problem, you may need to use a different type of a knob.
