Easy to Make Natural Dog Food Recipes

Natural dog food is an excellent alternative to the commercial dog foods available in the market. If you are one of the many dog owners that have become wary of what producers of commercial pet foods include in their products, you may want to try giving your pet natural food instead. The best thing about natural foods is that they can be cooked at home. They are also more nutritious and safe for your pet. Here are some easy to make natural dog food recipes:

Doggy Hamburger

Doggy hamburger is a great treat for dogs. Apart from being healthy, it is also very easy to make. You just need the following ingredients to make a delicious doggy hamburger for your pet:

  • Cottage cheese
  • Baby food carrots
  • Canola oil
  • 2 boiled eggs
  • 1/2 cup plain oatmeal, cooked
  • Baby food green beans
  • hamburger meat (at least 1 cup)
  • vitamin supplement (optional)

The first thing that needs to be done when baking a doggy hamburger is to chop the boiled eggs. Set them aside and stir-fry the hamburger meat in canola oil. Once cooked, place hamburger meat in a bowl and mix in other ingredients. Serve to the dog at room temperature and refrigerate unconsumed portions.

Doggy Carrot Cookies

A doggy carrot cookie is another delicious and nutritious natural recipe you can feed your pet. Ingredients for this recipe include the following:

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups boiled and pureed carrots
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups rice flour
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ

Mix the eggs and pureed carrots together until smooth. Add the rolled oats and the wheat germ. Mix thoroughly. Roll the mixture in the flour. If rice flour is not available, a good alternative would be rye flour or other type of unbleached flour. Cut the dough into desired shapes and brush each of them with egg whites. The egg whites will give the cookies a glossy finish when cooked. Set the oven to 300 degrees and preheat before placing the unbaked cookies. Bake the cookies for at least 45 minutes or until it has reached the crispiness you desired. Let cool and serve. This recipe makes about 3 dozens of cookies which may be a lot for your pet. If not all cookies are consumed on that particular day, you can refrigerate the remaining cookies and feed them to the dog again the next day. Discard cookies that are not eaten after three days.

Doggy Vegetable Snack

  • 1 beaten egg

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly. Grease a cookie sheet and put rounded teaspoonfuls of the mixture into it. Set oven to 350 degrees and preheat. Bake the cookies for at least 12 minutes or until brown. Let cool before serving.

With homemade natural dog foods, you can be assured that your dog is given only a nutritious and safe diet. However, keep in mind that not all natural foods can be given to dogs. There are some natural ingredients that may also be harmful to canines; therefore, be sure that you only use natural ingredients that will not affect your pet in any negative way. Some natural foods that may not be used as ingredients for natural dog food recipes include avocados, macadamia nuts, chocolates, onions, garlic, grapes, mushrooms, and raisins to name a few.
