Environmental remediation equipment has become increasingly popular in home safety. With hidden dangers lurking within the walls of your house, such devices and systems can help protect the health and well-being of your family.

Controlling mold dispersion

At the core of preventing recurring mold growth is moisture control. Indoor moisture that builds up from leaks, flooding, condensation and high relative humidity is one of the primary causes of mold generation and migration.

To be able to remove all damaged materials in your home, start with identifying if the water source is active. You can use an infrared camera to detect moisture and a moisture meter to determine the actual moisture content. A borescope will also come in handy for viewing spaces in ductwork or behind walls. This inspection device is made up of a rigid or flexible optical tube that can be inserted in bores or cavities. 

Venting out radon

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that moves upward through the soil and enters homes through cracks in the floors and walls. Getting rid of this is possible via an active (fan-powered) or passive (relies on air currents) mitigation system.

Standard active remediation is carried out using a soil suction system. The pipes that comprise this equipment are inserted into the gravel or compacted soil beneath the basement floor or a concrete slab. Using fans, the radon gas is pulled from the soil underneath your home and vented outside. The system can also be used to passively draw away low levels of radon gas.

Reducing sulfur emissions

Sulfur is typically released via the Chinese drywalls used in home constructions. Air, wet and gas scrubbers can help control sulfur emissions. All three devices adopt a high-energy liquid spray to eliminate aerosol and gaseous pollutants in the air. They can also be tapped for dust collection and process air cleaning.

Removing lead dust

While hardly visible, dust from lead-based paint is potentially toxic. Because of the dust particles are so small, ordinary household vacuum cleaners will not be able filter it all out. A more effective alternative is a HEPA vacuum cleaner. Equipped with a high-efficiency particulate air filter, this traps all airborne particles 0.3 microns in size or larger at an efficiency level of 99.97%. It removes even allergens that have settled on furniture or floor surfaces. The canister types, with their long hose for hard-to-reach areas, works best with lead dust control. Also look for units with a beater bar or agitator head attachment if you plan to clean carpets and rugs.

Avoiding harmful EMF

There have been growing concerns surrounding the harmful health effects of AC magnetic fields, also called electromagnetic fields. Specialized detection instructions such as EMF meters are available if you want to keep risks at bay. Scalar resonators ground the EMF using their circuits, while rare earth devices can be used as neutralizers.
