Game Room Supplies - Board Games Game Room Supplies - Board Games
Board games are an essential part of any game room supplies. Keep in mind that some games lend themselves more to party play than to one-on-one, and keep some of each on hand. Also be mindful of the games' age groups, and have a few for each. That way nobody will feel left out of the fun. You're the best judge of what will rate in your game room, but here are some guidelines.
What to Get
Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, and Operation will keep the littlest kids happy for a relatively long time. Remember that they'll need, and probably want, someone older to play with them. Newer games like The Very Hungry Caterpillar both entertain and educate.
Junior Editions of Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly and the like are aimed at slightly older kids, as are newer games based on pop icons like High School Musical and Hannah Montana.
Chess, Checkers, Parchesi and Backgammon, while not flashy, still appeal to young and old.
Monopoly, The Game of Life, and Trivial Pursuit have versions for every conceivable interest group. Many of them come in special editions – Simpsons, Lord of the Rings and Star Trek to name just a few. There are some fun unofficial "-opolies" with entertaining variations on the corner squares – for instance, in Dino-opoly, Jail is called Nearly Extinct. Each of these time-consuming games offers "express" variants in its Rules sheet.
Where to Look
Most toy stores will have basic versions and the latest permutations of these games. Many secondhand stores will have cast-off copies, but try to inspect them before you buy. For the unofficial versions, try variety stores or look online.
