Garden Windows Garden Windows
The design of garden windows allows them to function like mini greenhouses, giving a homeowner the ability to maintain live plant life in their home on a year round basis.
The set-up of a garden window consists of a fixed front window, two single-hung windows on each side, and a glass “roof”. These windows can range in size and are usually constructed of vinyl, wood or aluminum. Some manufacturers offer an insulated bottom shelf to prevent cold air from infiltrating the garden.
Although they are becoming more common, garden windows are generally more expensive than standard windows of similar size. The installation costs and additional labor associated with garden windows drives the price higher.
Traditionally installed over the kitchen sink, a garden window’s all–glass construction is the perfect environment to grow a small herb or flower garden. The ability to mesh form and function is the principle reason garden windows continue to gain popularity in new kitchen designs.
