Ghost Chair: How to Smooth Plastic Edges

Smoothing the plastic edges of a ghost chair requires sandpaper. After you cut and glue the ghost chair design, you should use a light-grit sandpaper to remove any rough edges. These rough edges may occur after you cut the design with the jigsaw. The rough edges may also occur after you apply the adhesive to bond the chair pieces together.

Sand after Cutting the Clear Plastic

After cutting out the ghost chair design, take a piece of light-grit sandpaper and gently sand the edges of the entire piece. Do this in the same manner you would when sanding a piece of wood. With a rag, wipe the excess plastic off before you move on to the next step of your ghost chair assembly.

Sand Where the Adhesive Was Applied

You will glue the pieces together, clamp them and allow them to dry overnight. After the chair dries, take a piece of light-grit sandpaper and sand the clear plastic at the point where you applied the glue. You want to remove all excess adhesive. Dip a cloth in acetone and wipe the entire chair surface to remove dirt and debris that build up from the sanding.
