Gopher Control: How to Get Rid of Gophers Gopher Control: How to Get Rid of Gophers

What You'll Need
2 or more gopher traps
Long handled stiff yard broom
Vegetable or grain to place in trap

Gopher control depends largely on how many gophers are in your area. If you have only 1 or 2 gopher mounds, you might consider trapping them. If the population is taking over your lawn, there are several more drastic measures you can take. Trapping is the most efficient way of catching these pesky little creatures.

Step 1 - Preparation

Find the area with the highest concentration of gopher holes. Look for fresh mounds as this means the gopher is currently active in the area. It is best to do this when the ground is dry as rain tends to obscure the amount of time the gopher mound has been there.

Step 2 - Brush the Mound of Soil Away

Carefully brush the mound of soil away from the hole to create access to the actual hole the gopher has made. Light will penetrate the hole, and the gopher will come back to block off the light.

Step 3 - Place the First Trap

Bait the trap with a bit of carrot or some grain mixed with suet. Once the trap is correctly set, position it as far down the hole as you can.

Step 4 - Repeat these Steps

Repeat these steps in other fresh mounds in the area. This is the best method of gopher control.
