Hanging Pot Racks from a Tall Ceiling Hanging Pot Racks from a Tall Ceiling

What You'll Need
Eye hooks
Pencil
Step ladder/ step stool
Measuring tape
Stud finder
Electric drill

If you need to save space in the kitchen and make room for other items, consider using hanging pot racks that attach to the ceiling. Pot racks are built to support the weight of various pots and pans hanging from them without posing the risk of coming loose. Even though these racks are extremely safe, it is important to correctly install them in the ceiling. For best results, fix them into such spaces that hang above areas under which one does not usually stand or pass. For example, instead of hanging a pot rack above the cooking stove range or the kitchen table, install it in a corner where there is no threat or danger of physical injury in the unlikely event the fixture comes loose. That being said, pot racks are very easy to hang from the ceilings and also make an attractive statement while being extremely functional and practical.

Step 1: Locating the Joists in the Ceiling

Climb onto the ladder or the stool with the stud finder and a pencil in hand. It is important to be very careful while you do so as the risk of losing balance is high. Use the stud finder to find the joists in the ceiling. The joists are the only portions in the ceiling that are truly strong enough to bear the weight of the pot rack and the vessels that are to be hung from it. Once the joists have been located mark the spots using a pencil.

Step 2: Measuring Distances

Take the tape measure to note down the spaces the joists lie at. The spaces will determine the dimensions of the pot rack one has to purchase. If the joists are far flung, then a large rack will have to be procured and if they are close together it is necessart to have to go for a slimmer, sleeker piece.

Step 3: Marking the Rack’s Dimensions

After the pot rack has been bought, note down its dimensions and then mark them on the ceiling according to the joist positions.

Step 4: Drilling Holes/ Placing Screws

The next step is to use the electric drill to make holes in the ceiling for the rack. The number of holes that one chooses to drill is dependant on the number of hanging hooks the rack will use. After the holes are ready, take the eye hooks and screw them into position by hand. This has to be done with strength and precision and ensure that the hooks are deep seated into the ceiling.

Step 5: Attaching the Pot Rack

The pot rack has to be hung from the eye hooks via the hanging hooks that are fixed to its back. Once the pot rack is firmly attached, you can start hanging pots and pans.
