Hot Tub Cleaning Made Easy
Everyone can get relaxation out of a hot tub, but not everyone is willing to go about the processes of cleaning their relaxing spa. Here are some steps to help you keep your hot tub clean and looking nice all the time.
Maintain Chemical Levels
The first thing that you are going to want to do is to maintain the proper levels of chemicals when you are trying to keep your hot tub clean. What this is going to mean is regularly checking your chemical levels to make sure that they are not getting out of hand. If they do happen to get out of hand, then the cleaning process for your hot tub is only going to get worse.
Buy a water sampler kit at a local pool store or department store and check your water every single week to make sure that the chemical levels are proper. The test strip should address total alkalinity, which should be between 80 ppm and 120 ppm (parts per millions), pH, which should be between 7.2 and 7.6 and calcium hardness, which should be between 250 ppm and 400 ppm.
In order to clean out your dirty spa you are going to need to have the right cleaning chemicals. Scum is nearly impossible to remove if you do not have the right chemicals in place. Scum is essentially comprised of a wide variety of different foreign materials and hard water elements which are capable of sticking to your spa's insides. Bring a sample of your "scum" to a local pool store and ask for advice. Most pool experts will be able to recommend a product in order to help you out.
Drain Hot Tub, Apply Chemicals
You are going to want to drain your hot tub before you can effectively and efficiently clean it. Apply the chemical that you purchased with a scrub brush. Seeing as most hot tubs are created out of fiberglass, you need to take care not to use a brush that is too abrasive in nature, otherwise you will end up doing more harm than good in trying to clean your hot tub.
If you are unsure about the abrasive nature of a sponge, try testing it out in an inconspicuous type of spot to see if any marks are left.
Once you're done scrubbing your hot tub, you can rinse the chemical out completely and then refill the hot tub with brand new water. The next step in the cleaning process is going to be to keep a filter that is nice and clean. There are also a number of different products that are available for the purpose of cleaning out filters.
Keeping your hot tub filters in good shape is a really important step in keeping your hot tub healthy and clean. Before you ever deal with the filters in your hot tub it is vital that you make sure that all of the filters and pumps are completely shut off, otherwise you could hurt yourself.
You should also clean the outside of your hot tub, which is likely made from wood. Apply a wood sealant in order to keep your wood looking great, and wax it once a year to make the exterior appear extra shiny.
