How deep should I dig a hole for deck footings?
The deck footings should be installed in a hole whose depth is variable, according to the climate of the area where the deck is being built. Deck footings should be set up on grades or slopes only if the area is hot, and there is rare possibility of snow. However, in areas prone to snow and low temperatures, a deep foundation is a must, and the footings need to be placed at depths more than 45 inches at least, and it is not advised that you set up a deck on grades in a snowy area. Check with the housing regulation authorities, to learn the exact depth required for your region.
