A garbage disposal air switch is a switch which makes use of pneumatic power to control the garbage disposal unit. It is typically located on the wall near the sink where the garbage disposal is located. If a garbage disposal unit fails for some reason and the homeowner elects to remove the disposal unit without replacing it, this leaves the then useless switch in place. Removing an air switch simply requires unplugging it, but this will leave a hole where it was located. For this reason, when removing a garbage disposal many people decide instead to simply leave the switch in place rather than trying to cover up the hole. But the hole can be patched and painted to match the wall around it if desired.
