How do I repair brick retaining wall mortar? How do I repair brick retaining wall mortar?
After time, the mortar that fills the joints in a brick retaining wall will begin to loosen in places and crumble. Just because this happens, it doesn't mean the whole wall needs to be replaced. A few select mortar patches here and there, and the wall will be just fine.
Repairing Wall Mortar
First, take a narrow chisel, putty knife or some other implement and run it through the grooves where mortar is crumbling and clear it all out. If you have an air hose, blow out the gaps or use a water hose and then let it dry. Mix up a small amount of mortar and use a masonry trowel to patch the grooves, smoothing them out to match the rest of the wall.
