How do I support my front porch gable roof? How do I support my front porch gable roof?

The worst thing you can do, is expect the gable roof over your porch to not need some sort of support. Even if the roof is attached securely to your home, the weight of snow and ice, or the pressure of wind pushing on it, can cause it to sag and start to damage your home. Use front porch columns to support your gable roof. The columns should run every 4 or 5 feet, and the roof should rest directly on them. The feet of your columns should be securely attached to the porch, or they should be attached to concrete footers.
