How does a travertine countertop compare to granite or marble?

A travertine countertop is somewhat similar to granite and marble because they are all different kinds of stone. Each one of these materials has a unique look to it. Travertine has a more dull finish while granite and marble generally have a smooth, high-gloss finish. Marble and granite are generally a little more expensive than travertine as well. Travertine is more porous than marble, which makes marble less likely to stain. With travertine countertops, you have to seal them more frequently so that the pores do not absorb any liquids. Both of these substances are derived from limestone.
