A snowblower takes the same kind of oil that a motor vehicle does, but its oil does not need to be changed every three months like a car's engine. The best time to change the oil on your snowblower is after you have used it for the last time for that year, and are ready to put it away for the spring and summer. This way the old oil will not get a chance to turn to sludge inside the engine and cause problems when you try and start the snowblower in the coming winter. Do not use the same oil for two years straight as the cold conditions can break the oil down and make it less effective.
