To set your water to your preferred pressure you need to adjust the pressure regulator valve. It is a fairly easy process that has big results.
Step 1 – Locate the Valve
The pressure regulator valve is usually located on the water supply line either in your basement or crawlspace, or in the box with your water meter. It is bell shaped in the middle with a screw and a locknut on the end, typically made of brass.
Step 2 – Make the Adjustment
Loosen the locknut to adjust the screw. Tightening the screw will increase you water pressure, while loosening it will lower the pressure of water in your home. Turn it slowly, as a little bit goes a long way. Tightening it too much can damage your plumbing or cause your faucets to leak, so be careful.
Step 3 – Lock It Up
Once you have adjusted the pressure regulator to the optimal setting, tighten the locknut back on and you’re good to go.
Good water pressure is something everyone can enjoy, but most do not realize how easy it is to obtain. With three simple steps you can enjoy proper water pressure throughout your home.
