How to Adjust Garage Door Cables
Garage door cables can be adjusted by the home handyman with patience and a few tools. It’s a typical do-it-yourself kind of job. As the springs can be fiddly things to adjust, you might need to ask a friend to help you. For this type of adjusting you would require the following tools.
Tools That You Would Require
- A G clamp for holding the cable spring in place
- A metal bar to slide through the hole on the edge of the collar
- Safety goggles
- Safety gloves
Step 1 – Starting The Task
If you are starting the task of adjusting the springs to make them tighter and to make the garage door rise in the same way it did when installed, it’s a good idea to have a friend help you. You first task would be to release the springs which you would do by using the clamp to the door roller. Do this at the lowest point.
Step 2 - Check the Pulleys
Once this is accomplished you need to make sure the pulleys don’t need replacing.
Step 3 - Adjust the Springs
You can now adjust the springs to a tighter setting by moving the S hook higher. Make sure you adjust it by placing it into the hole higher on the track.
