Polyimide-based adhesives belong to the synthetic organic chains. These adhesives are generally available as liquids or films and are very expensive. It is also difficult to handle them. However, these are superior in comparison to most other adhesives as they retain the bonding strength for long time at high temperatures. One such product is 122-01, which is a single component ready to use adhesive. It is electrically insulating and solvent resistant adhesive and a coating. It can be very easily applied by screen-printing, dispensing by a syringe or dipping. The curing is easy and the bond displays an excellent adhesion and thermal stability at high temperatures.
Tools and Materials Needed:
- Small paint brush
- Hot air blower
- Oven polyimide adhesive
Step 1 - Cleaning the Surface
Clean the surface with brush or a blower to remove the dust and dirt.
Step 2 - Applying Adhesive and Fixing
Coat a thin layer of the adhesive with a brush on the surface. Place the item to be fixed on it. Apply slight pressure to assure good adhesion of mating of surfaces.
Step 3 - Curing
Allow the bonding to get cured for about an hour at 200°C in an oven or by blowing hot air. Good properties are obtained on a variety of substrates by curing at temperatures ranging between 150°C and 210°C. Minimum cure time is one hour.
Work with sufficient ventilation. Keep the adhesive away from sparks and open flames. Avoid contact with skin and breathing of adhesive’s vapors. Wash hands using soap and water. Always use the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
