How to Build a Crawl Space Door Cover

What You'll Need
Measuring tape
Electric drill
Wood screws
Gate latch

Many people use crawl spaces to allow workmen to gain access under the house. Installing a cover to keep out varmints can be done quickly and simply.

Step 1 - Measuring the Area and Cutting the Plywood

Use the measuring tape to determine the length of the crawl space. Always add 1-inch to the measurement to ensure an exact fit. Make sure that the plywood is cut to fit the measurements. After the plywood is cut, sand the edges until it is very smooth.

Step 2 - Attaching the Cover

Attach the hinges to the crawl space wall with an electric drill. The hinges will be placed as if an actual door were being installed. Make sure that the hinges are spaced a few inches from the corners from where the cover will open. The hinge plates are then secured by wood screws and the cover is then attached.

Step 3 - Finishing Up

A latch may be added to ensure that no one can enter the crawl space. These latches also help keep rodent out.
