When the time comes that you need to raise your motorcycle with a floor jack, you may experience some problems in finding one which fits your bike. Most floor jack designs are intended to raise cars so that the weight is spread across the front frame of the car. Obviously you can't do this with a motorcycle. However, you can alter an ordinary floor jack to raise a motorcycle.

Step 1 - Mark the Wooden Board

The best way to convert a car floor jack into a motorcycle jack is to add a U-shaped piece of wood across the front. You will form this shape from two pieces of wood nailed vertically into a larger piece of wood. First, mark on the wooden board the exact width of your wheel.

Step 2 - Cut the Board

You can then cut the board to a suitable size, just larger than the width you marked. Place the two pieces of wood which are blocks on top of the board and again cut to a manageable size, around 4 inches high.

Step 3 - Nail the Blocks to the Board

Nail the blocks into the board.

Step 4 - Glue the U-Shaped Wood to the Floor Jack

Now glue your U-shaped wood to the raising end of the car jack. Lift your motorcycle.
