How to Build a Pool Screen Enclosure

A pool screen can help protect your pool from bugs, leaves, and other debris.

You can either purchase a fully assembled pool screen enclosure or you can spend a weekend putting a new one together. Follow these steps for a successful project.

Step 1 - Purchase Screen Poles

You might be able to purchase the polls the desired height; otherwise, you will need to cut them with a metal cutting saw.

You can purchase any type of poles at your local home improvement center. They can be any style, color, or texture. Pick something that works with your outside landscaping decor.

Step 2 - Dig Holes

Dig holes using a hole digger in the ground. If there is concrete underlayment, you will need to break through the concrete. This will be needed so you can place your poles on the ground.

Step 3 - Place and Secure Poles in the Ground

Place the poles in the holes. Make sure they are tight but not firm. Hammer them in place. They will be a little loose at this point.

Step 4 - Pour Quick Setting Concrete

Pour the concrete into the bucket and mix it according to the instructions on the bag. Pour the concrete into the hole. Make sure it comes just below the surface of the hole.

Step 5 - Smooth the Concrete and Set

Smooth the concrete with the shovel and allow the concrete in the hole dry and set for at least two to three days.

Step 6 - Roll out Wire Screen or Mesh

When the concrete has set firmly, roll the screen wire over the outer area of the poles.

Step 7 - Screw Wire Mesh in Place

Screw into the sheet metal two sheet metal screws at the top of the pole and two at the bottom. This will secure the wire onto the pole. Make sure you leave the area open for entry into the pool and the pool ladder.

Step 8 - Test Out your Pool and Enclosure

Test out your new pool screen enclosure. You will be amazed at how well it keeps the bugs and other flying insects from intruding in on your leisurely swim and relaxing afternoon.
