How to Build a Wrought Iron Fence

Although several materials can be used to construct fences, a wrought iron fence has a great number of advantages over other materials. Wrought iron is an extremely durable material, and lasts several decades longer than wooden fences. Step 1 – Take Appropriate Precautions

Step 2 - Designing the Fence

Now, the first step in this regard is to design the fence that you shall be constructing. Step 3 – Space and Fix Fence Posts

It is recommended that you put each post approximately 6 to 8 inches apart. Dig out holes for where the chalk dust has been thrown using a shovel. Next, place the posts into the holes with about 1/3 of it inside the ground. With a tape measure, check whether all the posts are at the same height above the ground. Use a hand saw to cut any extra length. To make sure that the posts remain firmly stuck inside the ground, fill up the holes with concrete. Moreover, to ensure that the posts remain in a firm up-right position, support the posts with braces around its sides. Remove the braces after a few days once you feel the posts are firmly stuck in the ground and the concrete is completely dry.

Step 4 – Add Rails to Posts

Now that the posts are in firm upright position, the next step is to add the wrought iron railings onto them again according to the original fence design chosen by you. Use a drill and make holes into both the posts and railing at the points where they are to be attached to each other. Next, place the railing against the post and fix it in with the help of nails and a hammer. Repeat this step in accordance with the selected design and hang up the railings onto the posts. To finish up, you can always add a layer of paint or weld the wrought iron railing.
