Types of Screws
There are a wide variety of different types of screws and different applications for each. When you are purchasing screws, you first need to know how they will be used.
Wood screws are used to attach pieces of wood together. They are often used in large projects like constructing decks, wood sheds, doors, and wood-framing projects.
Concrete screws are used when screwing objects into concrete slabs or into concrete fiberboard. Concrete screws are made with a strong point that does not tear the concrete apart.
Galvanized screws are appropriate for applications where the object being constructed will be outdoors or exposed to water. Examples include fencing, outdoor gates, and decks.
Sheet Metal Screws
Sheet metal screws are used specifically in metal fabrication applications. They are designed to withstand piercing into metal.
Screws also come in a wide variety of lengths. In order to determine the appropriate length of screw for your project, measure the desired depth you want your screw to be inserted. In most cases, you will want to purchase a screw length that does not allow the screw length to pierce the back of where it is being applied.
