How to Change Flame Colors on an Outdoor Fire Pit
For an added interest to your outdoor fire pit during evening hours, try producing a variety of flame colors that will be different from your more conventional yellow flame. It's easy. Just add certain materials and you can produce as many as 8 different flame colors, including a brilliant white.
Step 1 – Build a Fire in Your Fire Pit
Build a conventional fire in your outdoor fire pit. You can use any type of wood you would normally use for a campfire, including soft woods such as pine, cedar, and fir. You can also use hardwoods such as oak, maple, and ash. When you have built your fire, allow it to burn down until there is a bed of red embers. Your fire heat will be at the right level if you see flames about a foot high, with red, glowing embers beneath them.
Step 2 – Add Color Changing Materials
Sprinkle a small amount of your color changing materials onto the fire's embers. To produce various colored flames, use the chemicals itemized above.
