How to Clean a Deep Fat Fryer

A versatile deep fat fryer makes delicious French fries, fried chicken and many other foods. Regulary follow these steps to safely clean your deep-fat fryer so it cooks more efficiently. Always unplug your deep fryer before cleaning.

Drain Out the Oil

If your deep-fat fryer has a removable inner basket, this step is easy. Pour out all the oil you want to reuse into a large clean glass jar or well-washed coffee can, and lift out the inner basket. Hold a 1-piece fryer firmly with the cord toward you, lift it and pour the reusable oil into your oil container. Discard rancid oil in a separate container.

Wipe Off the Inner Basket

Wipe the removable inner basket all over with paper towels to absorb oil, and put it in the dishwasher, or soak in hot soapy water for 1/2 hour. Clean the cooking basket of a 1-piece fryer with paper towels and then wash with a damp sponge and dish soap. Rinse with cupfuls of hot water, ensuring you do not splash the electrical elements.

Clean the Outside

A degreasing soap and hot water will clean off burnt oil. Apply Easy-Off oven spray with no fumes, let it sit 5 minutes, then wipe off.
