Chalkboards used to be the ideal medium of choice for classrooms and office board meetings, but they have now been replaced with the white board. White boards are more attractive and easier to use; however, they require a few techniques on how to properly remove marks and stains to produce a pristine appearance, as they can be easily scratched when not handled properly. This article will show you how to give your white board a sparkling appearance that is free from unsightly scratches.
Tools and Materials Needed:
- Terry cloth towels
- White board cleaner
- Dry erase marker
- White vinegar
- Carnauba car wax
Step 1 – Remove Marks and Stains Using a White Board Cleaner
Use a white board cleaner and a terry cloth towel to remove stains and marks on the surface of the white board. A white board cleaner is easy to use and can be bought at most office supplies store. Simply spray adequate amounts of the cleaner to the surface of the white board, and wipe it dry using a terry cloth towel. The cleaner is capable of removing all sorts of stains and marks without scratching the surface.
Step 2 – Clean the White Board using Car Wax
Use simple carnauba-based car wax to remove all sorts of stubborn marks on the surface of the white board. Car wax contains strong but non-abrasive cleaners that can safely remove dirt and contamination from the surface of the whiteboard, while at the same time producing a smooth and sparkling appearance. Simply apply a small amount of car wax on a foam applicator, and work your way towards the entire surface of the white board, similar to applying wax on the body of a car. Using small circular motions will produce the best results. Allow the wax to dry for at least 5 to 10 minutes, and wipe it clean with a terry cloth towel to remove residue.
Step 3 – Use Dry Erase Marker
Use a dry erase marker to write on stubborn marks on the surface of the white board, and use an eraser to remove the ink. This works well on permanent markers or on other forms of stubborn stains on the surface. It is best to use a white board cleaner after this procedure.
Step 4 – Use White Vinegar and Toothpaste
Mix 2 to 3 tablespoons of white vinegar to half a liter of water, and use this mixture to clean the white board. Use a terry cloth towel to apply an adequate amount of the mixture on the white board, and wipe dry. You can also use simple white toothpaste to safely remove any surface dirt and stubborn marks on the white board. Simply dab a small amount of toothpaste on a damp terry cloth towel, and apply it over the affected areas. Rub the toothpaste lightly, and remove it using a dry towel.
Cleaning a white board without scratching the surface is an easy job. Just remember not to use abrasive cleaners, as this will produce fine scratches or swirl marks on the surface.
