How to Clean a Drum Trap
Regular drum trap cleaning is necessary to ensure that your tub drain is free of any materials caught within the drum trap. You do not have to hire a plumber to clean your drum trap. All you need are the following materials.
Step 1-Open the Drain
Fill the tub with 3 inches of water and turn and open the drain by turning the handle of the drum trap clockwise. The drain of your drum tap is located above the faucet handles.
Step 2-Use the Plunger
As the water drains out of the tub, position the plunger at the drain and push. Do 3 light pulls before pulling the plunger completely of the drain inlet. Do this a couple of times until the drum trap is free of debris such as dirt, hair, and small plastic components.
Step 3-Use Chemical Drain Cleaner
If using the plunger does not remove the dirt in the drum trap, empty tub completely using a pail. Remove as much water as you can. Pull out the strainer that serves as a cover for the drain pipe. Wearing a pair of working gloves, pour an adequate amount of chemical drain cleaner and allow it to work overnight.
