You must clean the dryer vent cover since it can get cluttered and congested with dust, lint and other dirt residuals. Too much dust left in there can not only be unhealthy, but also dangerous as dryer fires can be caused due to little circulation and combustible materials. Make it a point to clean it regularly so as to avoid dirt buildup and related consequences.

Step 1: Cut Power
Make sure to switch off the power supply or to turn off the gas.
Step 2: Unscrew the Vent Cover
Next, you can start working on removing the vent cover. This will probably be screwed in place, so all you need is a screwdriver to unscrew it.
Step 3: Cleaning the Vent Cover
Once you have loosened the vent cover, remove the lint and dust from it with a brush. If you notice that there is a lot of dirt, especially in the middle or in the holes, you may need to use a thin piece of metal—like a straightened wire coat hanger—to push out the clogged lint and dirt. You may also have to scrape away some of the caulking around the cover to be able to clean it well.
Step 4: Replace the Cover
When done, put the cover back in place using screws. Finally, restore the power to your vent.
