How to Clean a Shop Vacuum Filter
Cleaning a shop vacuum filter from time to time is important, especially if you use it a lot. It will greatly help to improve its general performance, and reduce the incidence of germs and odors.
Tools and Materials Needed:
- Brush
- Water
- Bleach
- Bucket
- Garbage bag
Step 1: Opening
First of all, open the vacuum carefully. The method will depend on the particular vacuum. If you are in doubt, check out the instruction manual.
Step 2: Emptying
Next, empty the vacuum of any accumulated dirt and dust that it had absorbed since you last cleaned it.
Step 3: Remove the Filter
Then, reach to the area where the filter is. Carefully detach the filter and inspect it. Depending on its condition, you have to decide whether it is worthwhile cleaning it or replacing it.
Step 4: Cleaning the Filter
First tap the filter to empty it of any loose dirt that has accumulated in it. You may also use a small brush to remove the dirt. Then, if this is recommended for the particular filter, fill a small bucket with warm water and some bleach, and immerse it inside. Use the brush to scrub carefully to remove any persistent dirt. Finally, rinse with plenty of water and allow it to dry well, before installing it back in the vacuum.
