How to Clean a Tobacco Chillum
In order to allow you to enjoy your chillum more, you will need to clean it from time to time. If you don't, the problem you will run into is that you'll end up smoking more resin than you do the actual tobacco. You will be able to smell the chillum from a mile away in a most unpleasant fashion. Cleaning your chillum is easy, if a little time consuming.
Step 1 – Loosen the Pass
Remove the screen and use a toothpick or safety pin to loosen any resin which has built up around the screen and in the pass. No matter what kind of tobacco you are smoking, it is possible to have large lumps of resin which build up in and around the bowl. Tap out the chillum as you loosen material.
Step 2 – Use Pipe Cleaners
Use pipe cleaners in order to whisk away finer materials which may be clinging in areas you cannot reach with a toothpick. Rinse the cleaner with water in between using passes.
Step 3 – Soak in Alcohol
Assuming you do not have any metal or plastic parts, submerge the chillum in a bowl filled with isopropyl alcohol. This can easily be purchased at the pharmacy. After allowing it to sit for several hours, remove it from the soak and rinse it off. Allow to dry completely before using again.
