TPO roofing is common in industrial applications, but is also found in some homes and recreational vehicles. This type of roof is constructed with a blend of rubber, and is placed as a permanent addition to the structure. They are environmentally friendly, resistant to tearing, and will also resist algae in wet areas. Cleaning these roofs is simple.
Step 1 - Sweep the Roof
Before you start scrubbing with water and detergent, sweep the roof to remove any large debris. You want to get rid of leaves, twigs, and other items before you start.
Step 2 - Wet the Roof
Use a garden hose to wet the roof down. Take caution with this, TPO can become slick when it's wet.
Step 3 - Apply Detergent
You can purchase detergent that is designed specifically for this type of roof. If you do this, follow the directions provided. You can also use a standard mild dish detergent. To do this, mix 1 part detergent to 3 parts water. Scrub the roof with a soft bristle broom, and rinse the detergent away with the garden hose.
Step 4 - Professional Cleaning
If the roof is extremely dirty, or you weren't able to get it completely clean with the detergent, you can hire a professional to clean the roof. They will have access to heavy equipment that isn't readily available to the layperson.
