A vacuum brush is an attachment that comes with your vacuum cleaner. This attachment is placed on the hose extension and is used to reach hard to reach places or clean furniture. The vacuum brush should be kept clean and free of dirt and particles that can end back up on a cleaning surface when in use. You can keep the vacuum brush clean by washing it with mild soap and water or using your hands to remove any dirt and debris that may accumulate.

This article will address some of the steps and tools and materials that you can use to keep your vacuum brush clean.

Step 1: Wash the Vacuum Brush

Take the vacuum brush attachment off of your vacuum cleaner and hold it over a bucket with warm water and a mild detergent such as dish soap. Dip a stiff bristle brush into the solution of soap and water and scrub the bristles of the vacuum brush attachment by hand. This will knock loose any dirt that has accumulated in the vacuum brush's bristles. Be sure to clean inside the attachment to clear any dirt and grime build up that has caked on insider the vacuum brush.

Step 2: Dry the Bristle Brush

When you are done washing the vacuum brush, use rags to dry the inside of the attachment. Pat dry the bristles with the rag and run it through the vacuum brush from the inside several times in order to soak up all of the water. Place the vacuum brush to the side to dry completely and for it to be ready for use again.

Step 3: Comb the Bristles

During the drying process, take an old comb and run it through the bristles of the vacuum brush. This will pull out any hairs and other debris that are still trapped in the bristles of the vacuum brush. Run the comb through the bristles several times to completely remove any remaining dirt and debris that are trapped inside the vacuum brush.

Step 4: Repeat the Cleaning Process

On a regular and periodic basis, depending on how much you use your vacuum cleaner and the vacuum brush attachment, you should repeat the steps described in this article. You can set your own schedule based on usage but should at least attempt to clean the vacuum brush and its bristles at least twice a year or semi-annually. If you do not clean the attachment often enough, you will find that the vacuum brush attachment is leaving more dirt and debris behind than it is removing from the surfaces.   Aside from the manual labor aspect of this process, there is not much more effort or work that is required to keep your vacuum brush clean and working the way that it is suppose to work.
