How to Clean Faux Granite Countertops

Faux granite countertops add aesthetic value to the kitchen or any other part of your house where it is used. But natural stones like granite are costly. Thus, you can use a look-alike faux granite countertop instead of real granite in the kitchen or in the kids' room or any other places of your choice. These faux granite countertops give an almost identical look to that of the granite countertops. However, faux granite countertops need to be cared for just like you care for granite countertops.

Wipe the Spills

The countertops are prone to accidental spills and it is more frequent if the countertop is in the kitchen or dining room. These spills can spoil the faux granite countertop if not cleaned in time. Thus, countertops have to be cleaned and wiped with a mild and non-abrasive cleaning liquid. Use a soft rag while wiping the countertops. You can also mix water with cleaners before using them for cleaning.

Regular Cleaning

Another important method of keeping the faux granite countertop shiny is by cleaning it regularly. Window cleaners can be used daily to give a shiny finish to the countertop.

Fill the Dents

If you find that there are scratches or dents on the countertop, these dents have to be filled with baking soda with the help of a soft rag. Get the help of a specialist for deeper cuts and dents. To avoid scratches, it is better to use hot mats for keeping hot pans, and using a plastic chop board for chopping or cutting vegetables and fruits while working on countertops.

Juice, Coffee, or Other Spills

Spills of acidic juices or liquids can stain or eat the shine away. Such spills have to be wiped immediately. Corn-starch helps to remove the oil or butter stains from these countertops. You must brush the corn-starch in the stained place, remove it after 3 minutes and coat another layer of corn-starch on that area. Leave it for a day and then wipe with an ammonia-soaked paper towel. Later swab that area with warm water.

Coffee and tea stains can be removed with the help of a paper towel soaked in hydrogen peroxide and ammonia mixture. Keep the soaked paper towel overnight on the stained area and the next day swab that area with water.

Some Other Ways

You can also use vinegar to clean the faux granite countertop. Mix three parts of water to one part of white vinegar and the resulting solution can be used for daily wiping and cleaning purposes. Apply wax polish with a soft towel or cloth periodically to give a high gloss finish.
