Like any other mattress, RV mattresses and toppers will become dirty while being used. Although it can be tricky to clean an RV mattress topper, due to its size, it is necessary and can be done. It is important to always use a mattress protector, preferably waterproof, on the mattress topper to make cleaning easier.
Before cleaning the RV mattress topper, inspect it carefully for signs of staining. Pre-treat with a mild detergent and use a sponge to blot the stain. Do not use bleach on the mattress topper.
To remove surface dirt, use a hand held vacuum cleaner or attachment on both sides of the mattress. If further cleaning is necessary, place the mattress topper on a tarp outdoors. Combine 1 part detergent with 2 parts water, and spray the solution onto the mattress topper, allowing it to soak into the foam for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Using a hose, spray the surface to rinse off the detergent, being careful not to soak the foam.
Allow the mattress topper to thoroughly dry, which could take several days depending on how wet the material got during the cleaning process. Do not wring the mattress topper out or twist the foam, as this can destroy the product. In addition, never place the mattress topper in the washing machine or dryer, as this will also ruin the material and possibly the appliance.
