If you have a blocked drain, there are a number of different ways that you could try to clear it out. Here are the basics of how to clear a blocked drain effectively.

Step 1--Plunge

Start out by using a plunger to try to remove the blockage. You will want to fill up the sink or bathtub with water before doing this. Place the plunger over the drain and then start pressing down on it. Make sure that it is covering the drain when you are doing this. This will create air pressure that can push the blockage out of the way.

Step 2--Auger

You can also try using an auger for this task. You should be able to push the auger down through the drain pipe. It can curve around the corners and help break up any blockage that is in there.

Step 3--Liquid Clog Remover

If these two methods did not work, you may want to turn to using a liquid clog remover. Many of these products are very effective and you simply have to pour them down the drain. Once they are down the drain, they are going to try to dissolve the blockage.
