How To Conserve Water In The Bathroom How To Conserve Water In The Bathroom

Conserve water in your bathroom by paying careful attention to the way you use your appliances.

Toilet

To begin, you can save gallons of water by flushing your toilet less often. Employ a new house rule to only flush when absolutely necessary and save up to 50 gallons of fresh water each week.

Don't use the toilet as a trashcan for tissues, ashes or any other waste that can be safely contained in a regular waste bin.

Shower and Bath

Take showers instead of baths as you will use much less water. Conserve even more water by reducing the time you spend in the shower by one minute each day. Consider installing a "low flow" shower head that will release water at a rate of about 2.5 gallons a minute instead of the normal 5 gallons.

Sinks

Turn off  your sink’s faucet while you brush your teeth, wash your face or shave. Teach your family members to only use the faucet to rinse their mouths and toothbrushes.

General

Tackle leaky faucets as soon as possible. A faucet that drips 2 tablespoons per minute wastes up to 15 gallons a day!
