A lot of people dream of having a bar inside their home, and one way to have a built-in bar, is to build it in your basement. A bar is an entertainment amenity that gives you the space and props to entertain your guests with drinks. It is also a place where you can store your numerous alcoholic beverages and its corresponding crystal glasses. Transforming your basement into a bar can be a tricky task, but doable. Here then are steps to follow in order to create a bar inside your basement.

Step 1 – Sketch the Plan of your Basement Bar

To maximize space and to avoid inappropriate installation, it is best that you begin this task by sketching the plan of your bar based on the dimensions of your basement. Determine which spot you want to station the bar and which side goes for the furnishings. Also, include in the plan, locations of electrical outlets, including the electrical capacity of each so that when you shop for your appliances like refrigerator and chillers you will know which ones will fit into your bar or not. Identify existing water pipes for strategic location of sinks or washers.

Step 2 – Decorating the Basement

Once your plan is complete, you may now start decorating the basement. Identify first if there are spots in your basement which you want to hide away from the crowd such as the ceiling or walls. If there is a need to do so, you can cover the ceiling with wooden board that appears to be hanging below the original ceiling. Assemble a rectangular frame using 2 by 4 lumber then on each sides, attach a single 2 by 4 lumber which you will have to secure on the original ceiling using screws. Once attached, cover the rectangular frame with wooden board. You may also paint the new ceiling with the color of your choice. For the walls, you may add wallpapers or paint it with the same or contrasting color with that of the ceiling. Lighter colors are preferred as you can actually save on lighting requirements.

Step 3 – Installation of Cabinets and Countertops

Install the preformed cabinets and countertops on your decorated basement. Choose the spot where the walls are shorter for this. Secure hanging cabinets on the wall using screws. Position base cabinet for bar table top fronting the previously installed cabinets, just make sure that there is enough space for someone to move around the cabinet and the countertop. Make a countertop using a wooden board, the size of which should be slightly wider than the base cabinet. Secure the countertop on the base cabinet using screws. The size of the compartments of the base cabinet should fit into the appliance that you will be placing such as refrigerator and chillers. Make sure to strategically position appliances to a spot closest to electrical outlets and away from water sources.

Step 4 – Addition of Fixtures

When the bar is done, you can now add your preferred sofa, tables and bar stools. Additional fixtures like pool table can place depending on the available space in your basement.
