How to Convert a Bedroom into a Nursery
A nursery is a cute room which all parents love to create and decorate. However, sometimes there might be a slight problem with regards to space. Usually, the best way forward is to convert a bedroom, usually a spare bedroom, into a nursery. A nursery does not have to be very large, as long as the most basic necessities are settled in.
Step 1: Planning
Primarily you have to plan what you are going to do. Check out the bedroom you will be using. If there are any furniture items in it, decide whether you will be using them in the nursery or whether you will transfer them to another room. Then, decide what furniture items you wish to incorporate within the nursery. This is directly affected by your budget, and by the space available. If the particular bedroom is small, you need to plan out the best layout to fit all you wish effectively.
Step 2: The Color Scheme
Next, you have to decide on the color scheme you will apply. If you already know the gender of the child you can opt for blue or pink, or any similar tones. If, on the other hand you prefer to go neutral so as to play it safe, then the most popular shades are green and yellow. Try to retain a light tone, for a more peaceful atmosphere.
Step 3: The Walls
Once you have decided on the general color scheme you can then decide whether to paint the walls, or else install wallpaper. There are various types of wallpaper designs which are ideal for nurseries and kids bedrooms. You may also use stencils so as to brighten up the walls with cute drawings such as stars, teddy bears, clouds, moon, flowers and similar objects. You can also buy wall stickers. Popular characters from kids cartoons and movies can also be featured.
Step 4: The Furniture
Once you have finished painting the walls or installing the wallpaper you can then move onto adding the furniture items. The main necessities include the crib, a nappy changer and a drawer or small wardrobe to store the child's clothes neatly. If the nursery will also be used as a play area you may also consider adding some shelves and a storage chest for toys. You may use any furniture items you already own. These can be given a face-lift by sanding them, filling any chipped areas with wood putty, and painting them a more lively color.
Step 5: The Soft Furnishings
Now you have to add that extra comfort with soft furnishings, such as carpets, bed linen, cushions and curtains. Try to retain the color scheme of the nursery throughout. If you have a knack at sewing it would be a great idea to use the same fabric for all of the soft furnishings.
Step 6: Lighting
Make sure to select lighting fixtures which are suitable for nurseries. You do not need anything large or fussy. Simple shades and dimmers will do the job. The lights should be used to create a relaxing atmosphere for the baby to sleep well.
Step 7: Decorations
Now you can add some decorative items, such as teddy bears, picture frames and other toys to create a nicer atmosphere.
