How to Cover Mesh Tape with One-Coat Veneer Plaster How to Cover Mesh Tape with One-Coat Veneer Plaster

What You'll Need
Sandpaper
Veneer plaster
Rubber float trowel

Covering mesh tape with veneer plaster is one really easy way to cover it up and still make it look good to paint. If you are doing a project and need to work with veneer plaster, there are a few things that you will want to keep in mind. Here is a quick guide that can help you through the process.

Step 1 - Clean

Before beginning the plaster application, be sure to clean off the area. Be careful not to get the mesh tape too wet, you just want it to be clean and a little damp so that the plaster will adhere.

Step 2 - Apply Plaster

Use a rubber float trowel to apply the plaster to the area over the mesh tape. Then, spread it evenly over the area and allow it to dry for 24 to 48 hours.

Step 3 - Sand

Now that the plaster has been applied, you will need to sand down the area. While you can use a piece of sandpaper by itself to do this, you may also want to consider using a sander to help you out. Evenly sand the entire area and make sure that it is smooth and no longer elevated where you were working.
